These days, it’s not only adults that are focused on having the latest cellular phones; complete with the most advanced technology; coolest features and all the available applications that can be crammed into one small mobile communications gadget.
Children too, have become hooked, for lack of a better term, to cellphones. They see their moms and dads clutching the coolest phone known to man and they want to have the same too; not only for its numerous applications but more so to show-off to their friends. It conveys some kind of statement for kids when they have the same stylish gadgets like everybody else.
SHOULD YOU ALLOW YOUR CHILD {TO OWN} A CELLPHONE?
What happens then when your child start to ask for one? Should you just concede without a second thought? There’s no doubt that young children should really not be permitted to own a cellular just yet. But for the older kids, it wholly depends on the parents’ judgment.
Cellular phones are essential for communication and if you are away most of the time and your children happen to be out too; with their friends or some school function; keeping in touch with them whenever both parents and children are apart is essential. Cellular phones will definitely make this simpler for everyone.
In addition, cell phones can be very useful also to children during emergencies.
TRAINING CHILDREN TO BE RESPONSIBLE
Another way to turn this cellphone ownership subject into something constructive is teaching children how to be responsible cellphone owners. Setting limitations as to their usage is a key element when thinking about giving children their own cellphones. While listening to songs and taking pictures may be some of the things that children want to be able to do with their phones; permitting them to browse the internet or chat without parental supervision should be something parents need to think twice about.
In this case, giving them a phone with only the bare necessities could be the answer. Also, giving these phones as rewards for doing well in class will train kids that they have to show good behavior in order to be permitted to have their own cellphones.
Finally, one way to likewise show them how to responsible is teaching them to save allowance so they can get their own prepaid loads; or both parents and children can split the cost of the phone. There are many ways for parents to get something constructive from these tools.
