The GPS navigation device has been a great invention for everyone that has a car or likes to travel to different places.  They allow users to find different places or direct them to a certain place based on a satellite signal that is sent from the GPS navigation device recording its location based on coordinates sent to it.  A consumer will never be lost again when they go out if they have a GPS navigation device on them because they will always know where they are.  A GPS navigation device can be a handheld, portable GPS device or built into a car for navigation.Each type of GPS receiver has its own advantages and disadvantages.  Consumers will be able to choose from a wide variety of manufacturers and models regardless of which type of GPS navigation device they choose.  You should understand the difference between the different types of GPS navigation devices before you decide to buy one. 

Differences Between The Types

There are two different types of GPS receivers available to consumers today.  The more common device that many people buy is a portable GPS that can be placed in the car or carried in your pocket or purse.  They are rechargeable often thru the cigarette lighter and can be mounted in different ways on your car.  The advantage of many of these GPS navigation devices is that they can be placed in different cars or carried in your pocket or purse. They can be carried as you tour a new city or kept with you as you go from one meeting to another.  The disadvantage to these types of GPS navigation devices is their small size limits the screen size.

It can be very difficult to view the map on a very small screen especially when you are driving and are not familiar with the location or the street names.  The other type of GPS navigation device that is very common are the ones built into many of the new cars.Many new cars today are built with a GPS navigation device either as option that can be added to the car while it is built.  The advantage with the devices that are built into the cars is they offer a bigger screen that is better for driving comfort.  Consumers will also not have to worry about extra cords or having to charge the device.The disadvantage is that they cannot be removed from the car so you will not be able to move it from one car to another and you cannot take it with you if you go out on trips.
